Will adding Chlorine into pond hurt Barley Straw?

rob m asked:

I have Barley Straw in my pond to help keep it from being infested with buildup (loom). The problem is i notice that the barley straw ironically makes my pond turn a slight green. I decided to add a tad of into the water and now it is all cleared up. Can someone tell me, does the mix damage the barley straw’s effect on preventing from forming and i will have to replace the barley straw sooner?
