It’s evident, a pond dont have a natural filtration system. I tried several DIYand I got tired to see no major improvement.

So I bought a good commercial filter ( with UV lamp ) and in less than a week i saw the results especially against algae.

My pond has 3 basins linked together by a cascade and it’s about 20 ft long x 6ft wide and 4 ft wide.

    Conclusion.

You will spend more money for a Do-It-Yourself in a long run. Get a good filter system suitable for the size of your pond.

You can use any plastic container that has a securely fitting lid. Plastic shoe boxes are perfect.

Cut or drill holes around it, to allow water to flow in,cut a circular hole in the lid to accomodate your pump outlet, buy some PLASTIC furnace filter material and place it in the box, put the lid on and place the set up in the pond. Plug in the pump.
