Pond help for a beginner?

We have just dug and lined a 16′x10′x5′ pond in our backyard. We are adding a waterfall to help filter and oxygenate the water. The pond is in a very sunny location. I need some help with what to do next.
I live on Long Island
1. What types of plants do I need? How do I “plant” them? Should I add dirt to the liner or is there another way?
2. What type of fish could I add? Are there any “must haves” to keep the pond maintained? Can/should I add other living things such as turtles, frogs, crayfish?
3. Is there anything else that I will need?
