Large Koi Tank (lets learn fish series) at LFS
Arvenohx again! Been a little while since my last vid. Koi: The most famous of the pond fish, is the beatiful koi. Koi can live up to 200 years, and some have grown as long as 4 feet. These are a cold water fish, and they can be kept in ponds all year long. An interesting note, there is no original style of koi. They all have had their color altered through decades of breeding, but it is generally thought that the more black and blues the koi have, the more valuable. Koi are very robust fish, but like all carp-like fish, they produce a lot of waste. Make sure you have a superb filter in your pond. Only keep 1 koi per 100 gallons of pond space. Feed your koi “koi food”. There should be a couple types of it at the store, I recomend Hikari koi food. Shubukens, comets, mosquito fish (eats mosquito larvae), bitterlings (eats parisites off of the koi) make good pond mates. Bitterlings and mosquito fish: These fish aren’t shown in the video, but I thought i’d put just a little bit of information about them up because they are so useful. (bitterlings): Bitterlings are small almost carp like golden fish. The reason why they are so useful is because they nip off parasites that live on koi. Feed them pond fish food, and keep 1 in 30 gallons of pond water. (mosquito fish): Mosquito fish, suprisingly, do what there name describes them as. No they aren’t mosquitos. They actually will eat mosquito larvae in stagnet parts of the pond. They have a small, almost guppy like appearence …
